Illusions
Illusion is the distorted perception when something exists in the real world but we perceive it in distorted form.
“An illusion is a distortion of the senses, which can reveal how the human brain normally organizes and interprets sensory stimulation. Though illusions distort our perception of reality, they are generally shared by most people”
Hallucination: (Related to sense)
Hallucination is something that is not present in the real world and the mind perceives it.
“A mild form of hallucination is known as a disturbance, and can occur in most of the senses above. These may be things like seeing movement in peripheral vision, or hearing faint noises and/or voices. Auditory hallucinations are very common in schizophrenia.”
Visual Hallucination
Visual hallucination is something that is not present in reality but a person sees it in imaginary world. It can be because of dementia, migraine, use of substances or drugs etc.
“Visual hallucinations in psychosis. Visual hallucinations in psychosis are hallucinations accompanied by delusions, which are abnormal beliefs that are endorsed by patients as real, that persist in spite of evidence to the contrary, and that are not part of a patient's culture or subculture.”
Auditory Hallucination
A person hears non-existing sounds like hissing, whistling. These voices are irritating. The reasons are dementia, Schizophrenia bipolar disorder.
Olfactory Hallucination / Phantosmia
Smelling of the odors that are not present and most of the time unpleasant like vomit, urine, rotten flesh. It can be caused due to trauma, virus, tumor and neurological damage to olfactory system in the brain and drugs as well.
Tactive Hallucination
A person feels that he or she is being touched but actually not. Most of the patients complain that bugs are crawling over their body. It can be caused because of cocaine and amphetamine.
Gustatory Hallucination
In gustatory a person feels tastes of different things which are unpleasant for example taste of blood.
General Somatic Hallucination
In General Somatic a person experiences a feeling of his body being seriously hurt or invaded some animal. A person also feels serious pain of injuries which is not real.
